Me with a Christmas tree at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.

Hello Saints and Legends!

It's me, Jamztoma.  I just want to wish you and your loved ones a warm and merry Christmas day as today is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  I hold him dear to me because He's done so much for me and my family over the years and continuing.  He has never forsaken us and it's true.  Right from the minute when my mom first taught me to say the "Apostle's Creed" and "Oh My Jesus" prayers, I came to know Him as a King who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, came into this world in a manger, preached about a God who forgives and accepts, and died for our sins.  Whatta man right?  So today, I want to magnify His birth and salute God and His Virgin mother for all that they have done for the world.  That is a picture of me with one of many beautiful and luminous Christmas trees on display at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.  Seh, you know?  The one where the relics of St. Peter were at earlier this year?  Me and my family were attending Christmas day mass there at 9am.  Thank you so much for all your support and readership throughout these past few months since this The Psalms era began.  Please feel free to comment on any posts and tell me what you think of my poetry.  God bless you all and to all a great Christmas time!  (I leave you with a Youtube video of American Idol singer Clay Aiken at Disney's 2003 Christmas Day Parade where he sang "Joy to the World/We Wish You a Merry Christmas" on it.  Courtesy of user: ste4ca  Enjoy!!!)

Hello my Saints and Legends!

I just got home from attending the 9am Sunday Mass at the National Shrine of The Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.  I am on cloud 9 right now because I just prayed before St. Peter's Relics (His blessed and holy remains) and took a picture of them for The Psalms here.  It is related to this blog's current themes of living the religious life, trying to achieve my American dream and as well as trying to battle my inner demons in order to attain the ultimate level of enlightenment.  I am also taking the recreational and informative College course of Intro to Humanities to learn about all things art, music, literature, architecture, and theater.  And I am LOVING it all at the moment!!!

Have a great Sunday you all!  And don't be a stranger....leave a comment or two on one of these posts any day now.  I love you all.

P.S. I mentioned in a comment to a friend of mine on facebook that I am planning a book based on these posts here on The Psalms of Jamztoma to be released sometime in late 2014 or early 2015.  Who knows?!  I'll pray about it and if God sees it as a part of my journey then it will happen.  If not, I will go out and sell peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the citizens of Silver Spring, Maryland...hahahaha.

Dedicated to my grandpa Nikolao Filipo and my grandma Kolotita Nikolao Filipo

(Sings my own version of some lyrics of Janet Jackson's Together Again):
There are times when I look above and beyond
There are times when I cry and sing my songs
Dedicated to your loves for me
I'll never forget your loves you see...

I often pray that we will be together again
Someday when my journey will come to an end
As I lay ancient and fulfilled on my death bed
and all my dreams and goals are finally met
I will look to the roof and sing alleluiah!
and think of you grandpa and grandma!
over the years I have felt your presence
making my journey so blessed and pleasant

(sings my own version of some lyrics of Janet Jackson's Together Again):
Everywhere I went
Every smile I saw
I know you were there
The loving faces of God
and under the moonlight
Every cloudless, starry night
I would see your stars
Shining down so bright.

Together again we shall be
Up there in heaven you and me
We'll talk tales and wondrous stories
with hearts renewed and void of worry
I will sing with you among the angels and saints
and be in awe of how there is no pain
and no flaws and mistakes just bliss
Oh grandparents I see my afterlife is filled with happiness

(sings my own version of some lyrics of Janet Jackson's Together Again):
Everyday I'd pray
To live to the day
when you two and I
unite in paradise
and may God be so kind
press and hold rewind
so that we may return
to good ol' days on Earth

Thank you!
God I thank you for your patience
I humbly ask for your guidance
I can't do it alone you know
I always have to have a role model
to follow, to look up to, and to submit to
I thank you God for my life
For all the things you did and will do for me- good and kind
When I was obscured and hungry you helped
When I wasn't sure and worried you gave yourself
and I am here to say:
Thank you Daddy
Thank you for the air I breathe
Thank you for healing my soul and my body
I owe my flesh and blood and bone to you
Thank you for being you
My Bible, my proverb of truth.
My Life, my Maker of all things new
I salute you.
I bow down to you, I venerate you.
Thank you!
God I thank you for your heart
For knocking always on my heart
(knock, knock, knock)
Hey God!
I open my eyes to you oh God!
You're all that I really want!
Thank you Pappy
Thank you for your love for the meek
It's hard and you're all that I seek
to be happy, to be alive, and to be free
I love you Oh Great King!
And later on tonight,
when I lay me down to sleep tight
I will go through my sins of the day and sigh
Oh Father cleanse my mind and memory I cry
Don't let the devil win that fiend of lies
And when I finally close my eyes
I thank you God for my adventurous life.

JAMZ' VENTURES: Holies At the Spanish Catholic Center On Georgia Avenue

The Spanish Catholic Center's Church
12247 Georgia Avenue
Silver Spring, Maryland 20902
Yesterday at 8:30 am (EST), me and mom attended mass at the Spanish Catholic Center's church here on Georgia Avenue near the Glenmont metro and our home in Silver Spring, Maryland.  The photos below are those of holies found within this church.  Enjoy!
The centerpiece of the church's altar, the
Holy Crucifix of Jesus Christ, my Savior.

Magical one of mystery
all of your charms have worked on me
I will surrender myself
Oh my Lord of Heaven high
you have opened up my eyes
And I am finally healed.
                 - modified lyrics to "Spiritual" by Katy
Perry from her album PRISM (2013).

Oh my Jesus,
my Lord, my impetus
for living and rejoicing
help me stop sinning
so I can achieve paradise
and eternal life
with you forever
and ever and ever

To the left of the crucifix, is this sacred image
of the Blessed Virgin as Our Lady of
She's so high
high above me
she's so lovely

She's so high
like Cleopatra,
Joan of Arc, or Aphrodite.
      - chorus to "She's So High" by Tal Bachman
        from his self-titled album (1999).

Si o'u alofa Maria/ Ua tumu oe I le kalasia/
Ua ia te oe le Ali'i/ Ua manuia oe I fafine uma/
Ua manuia o Iesu/ Le fua o lou alo

Maria paia e,/ Tina o le Atua/
Ia e talosia I matou o tagata agasala/
I ona po nei ma le ituaso o le matou oti

         - Si O'u Alofa Maria (Samoan version of the
Hail Mary prayer of the Holy Rosary.

St. Joseph and Baby Jesus to the
right of the crucifix above.

Hey Chloe
I know the hurt you're feeling
Don't you cry while you're sleeping
The Lord is by your side waiting

For the night to become morning
So you can rise and be smiling
Void to all of the scolding
Inside of your mind talking

And when you start laughing
The Lord is by your side watching
He will keep you from sinning
He makes your life amazing

Hey Chloe
I know the pain you're hurting
No worries you keep on living
The weak and the meek are for dying

But you I want you to be rejoicing
Cause you keep on winning
You and me together celebrating
All your victories from losing

So I hear you yawning
And the Lord is near you darling
You've come a long way fighting
You yourself is one of God's blessings

10001 Old Georgetown Road
Bethesda, Maryland
Pictures taken on October 10, 2013.
"Successful" and "Queen Salote" are part of the Personal Visions Gallery on display there from September 22 - October 31, 2013.

"Successful" in all its glory at the Dennis and
Phillip Ratner museum that me and some friends
visited last week here in Bethesda, Maryland (USA).
My second artwork, "Queen Salote," based on
the Tongan monarch of the same name who
was well-known for her royal gesture at Queen
Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953.

due to my knowledge of the Peace Corps and its ongoing relationship with Samoa, I have decided to write this quickie which is a fictional story of an American girl soon-to-be a Sarong girl  and all she knows is Dorothy Lamour (Hollywood's famous Sarong Girl).

On the road to Polynesia
On the road to Samoa
So long, so long American girl
Hello sarong, sarong world

Julia of the Peace Corps
on the road to meet islanders
On the road to learn new culture
and all she knows is Dorothy Lamour

I'll run through the rainforests
I'll discard my dresses
This will all be a fresh experience
don't forget postcards to the parents

On the road to Survivor: Samoa
this blonde from California
So long, so long Malibu
Hello, hello Upolu!

Julia of the Peace Corps
on the road to live in nature
on the road to become a teacher
and all she knows is Dorothy Lamour.

this poem is fictional...for entertainment purposes only...

More experienced
Married before
More like my parents
Wolf undercover
my first and only lover

She's a cougar
She's a mother
She's a great lover

Less experienced
fledgeling that is me
youngin so clueless
Lamb insidiously
mine eyes will finally see

I'm a joey
a little boy
Playing the role of 'boytoy'

It was all sex
She got obsessed
I got upset
Our love became a mess

She was controlling
She wanted a wedding
It was annoying
Our love became nothing

She's a cougar
I'm a joey
We are no longer
lovey dovey.

Written as a tribute to Katy Perry's anthemic "Roar."  That I fully understand where she's coming from.  I used some of her lyrics in writing this, like "tiger", "lion", "roar", and "champion."

When life is distressing
and stressing, depressing
and you're in a mess
not feeling your best
and you're put to the test
by the haters and the rest.
you're feeling like a wounded tiger
and you don't see any good in your future...

Hey you got the power!
to stand up and not be a coward
Hey you got the colors!
to show everyone your inner tiger

The bullies they drive you crazy
Religion is making you weak
Though there's power in humility
at times you got to be upbeat
cause you're being put to the test
by the haters and the rest
you're feeling like a wounded lion
but you want to be a champion...

So you got to persevere!
to have the strength not to fear
So you can show your inner power!
to give everyone a great big roar

Roar to the haters
Roar to the bullies
Roar to the fakers
Roar to your enemies

MELTING POT (A Magazine Spread)

Faraway from American Samoa
Now here in Seattle-Tacoma*
In the summertime
Living a new rhyme
Many faces, many races,
many styles, many profiles,
and I'm going out of my head
What a magazine spread!

No saying random hello's
Be on guard, be careful
Here comes them Filipino's
and other Asians and the Latino's
and Palagi's and Tagata Uli's
and of course the Poly peoples
and I'm head over feet,
What a melting pot indeed!

I guess I have to drop in in case you all might think I have neglected all of you!  I am done with submitting my whole manuscript to a publisher for review and they have okay'ed it for printing.  All I must do is review and edit the proof that they will be sending me and then I approve the final product for distribution.  Many titles have been announced on my facebook (www.facebook.com/jamztoma) and my twitter (www.twitter.com/jamztoma) accounts and so far I have not made a decision yet.

The following are some titles I came up with...

#1- Magical and Other Pasefika Poems by Jamztoma
#2- Dance to the Pasefika Beat: Pacific Island Lyrics by Jamztoma
#3- The Polynesian In Me: Poems and Art by Jamztoma
#4- Everything:  Poetry and Art From the Island of Jamztoma Blog

I thought about #1 but then that title for me is too 2002-ish for the first version of it was published back in 2001 and I had won an Editor's Award for it from Poetry.com in 2002 so it is ruled out.  I thought of #2 but then it was listed with #3 on my facebook account as a poll and the majority voted on #3.  But #3 does not cover the other personal poems I have on this blog which are not Polynesian-themed so I am tentatively thinking of titling this project with #4 for that poem really says it all.

"I am every role I want to play"

The poems on this blog are written in various point of views, like in one poem I am a Hawaiian wahine enjoying the seabreeze (Under the Sun) and in another I am a Samoan tama hard at work (Blood and Sweat) and another I am a Tongan ta'ahine in tears over her military lover (Just Breathe) as well as a Maori guy having fun in the United States (Carefree).  So "Everything" is most fitting don't you all think?  To honor my Green theme I am going to give the front/back covers of the book the green color for it represents Polynesia and nature.

And something great has happened in my personal life just recently but I will not disclose it on here.  God has been kind to me (like always) and I thank all those who have prayed for me and who have followed my blog over a year...  I am so so so happy right now I want to dance and shout all the way to Disney World Florida and back to my current home here in Silver Spring, MD.

alofa's and opo's,

Give me a sei
Tie-dye around my waist
Hair undone
Face towards the sun
Birds singin' in the trees
Lips kissing the breeze
from the sea.

So tropical
So wonderful

Coconut juice
from you ma masseuse
tendin' to ma wounds
and I get amused
Darlin' you so gentle
 so tropical

You so beautiful
I'm so grateful,
Your #Islandbeau

Into the forest
we escape to from the village
on our own
we sit kissing on a stone
passionate lovers
boy n girl on fire

So tropical
So magical

Hi everyone!  I had to stop by and see how y'all doin?  Well, I am still working on my manuscript but here's a drawing that I was working on this morning called, TIGILAU N HERMIT CRAB.  Tigilau is a famous figure in Samoan legends.  Some say he is the husband of Sina while others say he's the guardian of the Pacific Ocean.  Whoever he is, he's a very important character.  Blast away in the comments section what you think of this drawing.  Yay or nay?  But anyway, it's beginning to look like summer...Peace out!

Good morning fellas and lahdeez!  I give you "TIKI TORCH BOI" for today.  Simple and ethereal.  Trying to hone my drawing skills you know?  It is one of my hobbies that I need to "flourish in the light."  haha.  Manuia le aso!!!  (HAVE A GOOD DAY!!!)

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

hello, hello, hello!  It is the month of May of the year 2013.
I just finished copying and pasting all of the poems of 2012 and Jan., Feb., Mar. into one Word document and am now ready to write the introduction or preface to the manuscript.  Pray for me, pls.  On another note, I felt like I have abandoned my loyal readers too long and so I've posted this one for your reading pleasure....and NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  I am not egotistical or arrogant with this poem.  I just came up with it as I was reading the mythical creation story of Samoa by the god, Tagaloalagi that is available when you google "Sacred Texts" and then click on the first result where you then click on Pacific and then Samoa.  I hope you enjoy this one.  I had originally wanted to write this poem out as "Jamztoma's Creation Story of Samoa" but then again that one would have been controversial.  So I decided to call it The Island of Jamztoma's Creation Story

Long, long ago
Rainbow and Thunder co-existed
The people down below
were chaotic and misled
Roaming and roaming and roaming
from sea to shore to mountain-top
searching and searching and searching
for love from the Heaven-god
Whose name was He-who-dwells-in-the-skies
the child of Sun and Moon
one who was ancient and wise
one who knows the truth:
That Rainbow was born in Tonga
That Thunder was born in Fiji
That Sun originated in Samoa
and Moon in Tahiti.

Then He-who-dwells-in-the-skies
came down to the people below
took the taupou o Sina for his wife
and disappeared into the vanimonimo
All who were present then perished
Just a good chief named Sa
and his wife Vai'i who was pregnant
and their children o Tutui and La
Sa and Vai'i later died together
He-who-dwells-in-the-skies wept in sorrow
He named their premature daughter
Savai'i the dawn in the morrow
And then Tutui and La united
and became the island of Tutuila
They caused Rainbow and Thunder to become separated
and together created the island of Jamztoma.

She's clear about what she is
She's pure, that's the way she exists
A combination of oxy- and hydro-
Serves to quench dry throats
of us island people

Water you are our lover
Each other,
We're thirsty for one another
All year it's sunny weather
Ice water,
Satisfy our hunger

He's smooth from the lower Earth
He's cool, has no heat that burns
An elixir for islanders to bathe and swim in
Serves to eliminate all our aches and pains

Water you're a potion for happiness
that also showers upon us
from the gray, cloudy heavens
and that Jesus
used to bless His servants
oh water
you're our life-giving source

Colorfully lit dance floor, with human silhouettes in motion, dancing
© Wico |
Stock Free Images & Dreamstime Stock Photos

Here's a quickie...Hope you like it...
Written for my readers...
love and miss you,
Yours truly.

Dark, foreboding, whirling hair
slaps me across my face
Dancing alone in the spotlight's glare
She's blowing up the whole place!

Oh, oh she's a tornado

Stormy curves that shake the room
like a child of Mother Nature's
All who fall in the path of her boom
are blown away by its force

Oh, oh she's a tornado
Circling, twirling is her game
A diva of destruction
causing all the winds and rain
She's a strong, fierce woman

Oh, oh she's a tornado

And I'm a tall maple tree
And she's slowly heading to my side
Laughing wickedly and dangerously
She makes me surrender without a fight

So we dance, dance, dance, whoa!
So we dance, dance, dance, whoa!

She's a tornado...

So we kiss, kiss, kiss, whoa!
So we kiss, kiss, kiss, whoa!

She's a tornado.

Me and the beautiful wax figures of President Obama and First Lady
Michelle at the Madam Tussauds DC museum in 2010.  (Photo: Jamztoma)
Just a little something to commemorate today's great event in America's history: the 2nd swearing in of POTUS: Barack Obama.  It is a way for me to get in on the spirit for his second term presidency!!!  My greatest well-wishes for him and his darling family:  First Lady Michelle and first daughters: Malia and Sasha.  God keep and God bless, jt

I remember
I shall remember
forever and ever
will remember
never un-remember
this January month
and 2013 year.

I shall keep
this month and year
in my memories indeed
here in Washington, DC
This event
a great event
of Obama as President
for the second time
of the United States
of America
So sublime.

I believe
in fulfilled dreams
I believe
in his presidency
I believe and seek
truth and peace
justice and honesty
and his unique legacy
God speed.

I believe as I weep
as I absolutely,
very dearly,
love him and
his being from
Polynesia: Hawaii.

I salute
the American flag
and all the women
and all the men
who have died
and/or fought
for my freedom
and your freedom
oh such patriotism.
Fa'afetai ladies and gentlemen!

And I remember
yes I remember
shall remember
always remember
never ever
the forefathers
of yester years.

I feel triumphant
for you President
your wife and children
so God-sent,
from the heavens
I feel happiness
and content
and pleasant
for your highnesses.

First family,
first lady,
first daughter,
first second daughter
first father
first of firsts
and now second term
you own the universe!

President Obama,
talofa, talofa
aloha, aloha
bula, bula
kia ora, kia ora
ofa, ofa
iaorana, iaorana
malo atu lava!

I shall remember
I will always remember
I will never ever
un-remember, un-remember
this month, day, and year altogether
forever and ever
happily ever after.

I shall remember
forever and ever
you President Obama.
God be with you
Always with you
for eternity
