THOSE DAYS

Written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS:
Poets United's Poetry Pantry #287

Do you remember
the years of laughter
the days of glory
the pages of history
when there was joy
happy girls and boys
freedom left and right
great sounds and sights?

Can't forget
those days
Can't accept
these days
Want to go back
to those days...

Do you remember
the ever afters
the magic moments
the past tense?
Don't you ever
lose them pictures
from your mind
those were great times

Can't forget
those good days
Can't accept
these sad days
Want to go back
to those days...

Take me away
to them happy days
Make me stay
in those happy days.

Inspired by my happy teenage years and Donna Lewis'
I Love You Always Forever song from the 90's.

TO HAVE COURAGE

Written for Poets United's Midweek Motif:
COURAGE

To have courage
is to live in peace
to walk with ease
to speak as you please
to be light as the breeze.

To have courage
is to be a King
To have courage
is to achieve great things

Without courage
is like a silent scream
is like an evil dream
is like a bird without wings
is like a cursed being

To not have courage
is to be nothing
To not have courage
is to lose your blessings.

RHYTHM OF THE WRITE

This was written for Poets United's Poetry Pantry #286

I am a writer
I got my fingers, the keyboard, and a monitor
with each tap, tap, I write a sad, sad
then with each clap, clap
I write a glad, glad

I seldom get mad, mad
cause the last time I did, did
I got distressed, stressed
completely a mess, mess.

I consider myself a word bird
or maybe I prefer er
to be an amateur
for it is hard to land a publisher
one I prefer er.

I am a poet
this I feel fortunate
to have in my pocket
the rhythm of the write
in me, myself, and I
hope you'll be satisfied

GET ALONG NOW! I yell, yell
for my day is just starting out well, well
for now I'm just thankful, y'all, y'all
to be on Poets United's wall, wall
being read by all, all.

KARMA

This was written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS:

I'm feeling this evil power
I'm sinking into its abyss under
this thing called Karma
is coming to destroy my aura

Lose all my respect
Lose all my assets
Lose all my success
Lose all my talents

I don't believe in such a thing
For I have seen the wicked win
I don't believe in such nonsense
For I have seen the good descend

Lose all my respect
Lose all my assets
Lose all my success
Lose all my talents

If Karma is the source of my sadness
then it is the devil and his works
this is more like "'nice' guys finish last"
and that I greatly affirm.

2 MOUNTAINS

This was written for Poets United's Midweek Motif:

Climb every mountain
That's me in my younger years
Always climbing and panting
in order to get home in tears

Tears because of the Mountain
whose cruelty was excused
Respect your elders
I had to while feeling bruised

Bruised and battered
that's me in my younger
although I saw him leave
the Mountain always remembered

I'll remember he sang
I still remember that mountain
How we all climbed it
Over and over, again and again.

Again I saw the Mountain
Later when He's all achieved
Though I tried to be pleasant
He would still remind me

Me, I am a piece of tool
Next to Him I'm nothing
But I will never forget the mountain
We climbed back home then.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

This was written for Poets United's Poetry Pantry #286

Dear Mr. Lonely
I have read your poetry
and could only sympathize
as I read your lines.

You are not alone
You are gold
I should know

Dear Ms. Depressed
I can feel your stress
and could only offer kindness
as I write these comments

You are not alone
You are gold
I greatly console

Dear Mr. Tearful
I pray that you will heal
and could only offer hope
for your bliss to grow

You are not alone
You are gold
This I say so.

Dear Ms. Loser
I have read your words
and could only offer comfort
for you to feel much higher

You are not alone
You are gold
I really want you to glow!

SILENTLY

Written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS:

Silently
I cried in the dark
Cause there was no need
to act out what's in my heart
For I knew exactly
what they would bark
so I kept it all within
and prayed to the stars.

that someday I will be freed.

Silently
I walked in the cold
Treated bitterly
by those who were foes
With difficulty,
my refuge was my home
in there I would keep
my pain and my woes

later to be salved and appeased.

Silently
I will be strong
and patiently
I will go on.
Hopefully
someone will come along
and happily
I will be long gone.

DELICIOUS

This was written for Poets United's Midweek Motif:
FOOD

I'll make you a meal
that will cause you to feel
warm inside.
I'll make it sweet
for you to eat
and feel so nice.
Delicious appetizer
for you to savor
close your eyes

Isn't it delicious?
this home-cooked breakfast?

Are you hungry for more?
Here comes my midday course
Tender, juicy, sirloin beef
with an incredible (sigh)
ladle of fried rice
to make it complete.
How about this salad
so fresh to make you glad
you're here with me?

Isn't it delicious?
this lunch so nutritious?

For dessert,
we're having apple pie
smooth, crusty, oh so fine
For the record
we're drinking it down right
with warm pumpkin spice.

Isn't it delicious!
this treat between the two of us?

CITY OF MIGHTS

This was written for Poets United's Poetry Pantry #285

I never thought
I'd be a witness of the action
that goes on in a city
as I am but only simple
from an unknown place
invisible on the map
not a regular in world news

But as of now:
I'm accustomed
and assimilated
and infatuated
by this city of mights

I feel so small
compared to the White House
and the Capitol
and the Pentagon
the Union Station
the Lincoln memorial
the Martin Luther King, Jr. figure
the National Shrine
and the pedestrians

And that's the now
I'm up, up, up in the clouds
and down, down with the frowns
It's all so different from home
But I've accustomed
and assimilated
and infatuated
by this city of mights

I feel so lucky
so fortunate
to be a part of it
I feel so blessed
so wide-eyed
to be in the city of mights.

SPONTANEITY...YES OR NO?

This was written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS:

YES:
Spontaneity,
I applaud you so
Because naturally
you went with the flow
Unplanned
were the words you spoke
So grand
they made me float
so here I am
for you to hold.

NO:
Spontaneity,
you irk me my dear
Your impulsivity
I do very fear
Impetuous
were the words you sneered
So anxious
I want you out of here
so I can best
avoid your behavior.

JOY WAS HER NAME

This was written for Poets United's Midweek Motif:

She never felt her heart break
She never made any mistakes
always cheering for the Ravens
always been amazing

Joy was her name
Never wanted any fame
But it came looking for her
Said it was what she deserved.

She never caused arguments
She never lost her patience
always loving her husband
always been called good looking

Joy was her honor
Never wanted any fame
But it came searching for her
Said it was her soul to blame.

She never said no to anyone
She never envied other matrons
always jovial and festive
always kind and impressive

Joy was her title
Never wanted any fame
It came to expose her candle
Said she had to be claimed.

Then she never came out anymore
and she never opened her doors
always stayed inside
until she lost her mind.

BE PERFECT

This was written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's

May the world be perfect
so perfect that God won't regret

for regret can cause restlessness.

May your day be exquisite
let the sun shine and never set

for the sunset can make one depressed.

May your mind be reliant
so reliant you will be confident

for confidence can make you dance.

May your heart be immaculate
sweet, pure and compassionate

for compassion lends a second chance.

Strive to be perfect my friends

2016 IS HERE!

This was written for Poets United's Poetry Pantry #284

New Year is here!
Welcome it without fear
Don't look back now
Look forward, don't be down
Life is supposed to awaken for you
Nice for you to be renewed

set new goals
be on the go, blossom, grow
forget any pains of 2015
time to carry on and achieve

New Year is here!
Don't waste your time on tears
Get up, get gone, be strong
Sing a new and happy song
Be all that you can be
Set yourself free

realize and achieve
be behind the wheel to possibility
forget the losses of the old year
don't waste time, make it clear

that 2016 is your zone
that 2016 is yours to own.

New Year is here!
Smile, be in style, my dear
Shine, don't be left behind,
Fly, don't sit tight
Let 2016 define you, rebirth you
Go out and do what you got to do.
