SUFFER

This poem was written for Poets United's Midweek Motif:

Martyrdom is...

To suffer for the promise
The promise of extreme happiness
Happiness without an end
An end to pain and wrongs

You got me suffering
Yet I'm earning
my place in the sun

Martyrdom is...

To die for a cause
The cause of goodness for all
For all to end all hate
End to hate from the skeptic

You got me dying
Yet I'm rising
up from the negative.

Martyrdom is...

To laugh in the afterlife
The afterlife where all's just
Just and absolute perfection
Perfection of heart and mind.

You got me laughing
because I'm going
to a wonderful life.

SONG OF A MYTHOLOGICAL CHARACTER

This was written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS 7:

Oh mythology
interpretations
by past generations'
versions of origins

I'm looking at the sun
Praying that I won't become
ash to the rays of fire
that Apollo's chariot blooms
as it rides across the sky
a daily task of orange fumes

Oh mythology
interpretations
by past generations'
versions of origins

I'm a waterfall of tears
Mourning my lost love
where do I go from here?
I'm a creature so feared
turned this way by the wrath
of a goddess so fierce

Oh mythology
interpretations
by past generations'
versions of origins

I'm about to be sacrificed
as atonement for misdoings
of a city full of pride
I'm a product of lovers
one a god and one a woman
the beginning of a line of fighters...

Oh mythology
interpretations
by past generations'
versions of origins

My mythology
is a story
one of glory
a chapter of history...

MY ANSWER IS NO!

This was written for Poets United's Midweek Motif:
Marriage

I don't even know anyone
who'd be interested
who'd be fascinated
with the idea
of marrying a persona
like mine.

Marriage?
Oh the bondage!
I'll be tied down
I"ll be disallowed
I'll be owned
My answer is no!

I don't even know one
who'd be willing
to enjoy a living
with someone boring
someone who's baring
their soul online.

Marriage?
Oh the bondage!
I'll be tied down
I"ll be disallowed
I'll be owned
My answer is no!

I don't even want to become
a responsible person
when I am already high strung
with my own demons
with my own lessons
the crazy kind.

Marriage?
Oh the bondage!
I'll be tied down
I"ll be disallowed
I'll be owned
My answer is no!

I don't even want
to witness the stunts
that someone will pull
when I become the fool
who married someone cruel
I'm so blind.

Marriage?
Oh the bondage!
I'll be tied down
I"ll be disallowed
I'll be owned
My answer is no!

TO LOVE WOULD BE SUBLIME...

This was written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS 6:

To love would be sublime
it would warm like a rhyme
To love would be to go blind
to flaws and imperfect designs

To love someone for what's inside

To love would be sublime
it would send out symbols and signs
To love would be like drinking wine
to be free and out of your mind!

To be free to love anyone I like

To love would be sublime
it would stand the tests of time
To love would be to bind
your entirety to your life

To love yourself and your life

To love would be sublime
it would melt mounds of ice
To love would be to try
to make it work with your wife

To love family for all time

To love would be sublime
it would glow throughout the night
To love would be to die
for the sake of doing what is right.

To love doing what is right.

ZOMBIE

This was written for Poets United's Midweek Motif:

Muscle loss
Loss of appetite
Appetite for living
Living sucker
Sucker at moving
Moving nowhere
Nowhere but here
Here in bed
Bed of shadows
Shadows lurking
Lurking in the dark
Dark sockets
Sockets dripping
Dripping blood
Bloodthirsty
Thirsty man
Man dying
Dying zombie
Zombie.

Please note, this is a fictional poem.  I'm sorry that some of you got a little scared
of its message but I am fine.  This was entirely inspired by the motif itself
and should not be taken as an actual event.  Sorry.  The ash to dust quote was
included because today is Ash Wednesday.  I'll try to write my poems with humor
next time because this one is too spooky and dark for you.

TRUTH OR FICTION

This was written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS:

The truth is...
my face is scarred and pimpled
but I like to imagine
I am a Pro-activ spokesperson
the truth is...
my teeth are in need of alignment
but I like to imagine
I am a model with a great smile
the truth is...
my profile is beginning to sag
but I like to imagine
I am a fitness guru still youthful.

My truth is that I am average looking
but my mind, the cheerleader it is
likes to fatten up my ego
likes to make me feel incredible
likes to cast me in the sun's glow

My truth is overshadowed by my fiction
And my fiction gives me optimism.
Optimism makes me survive each day
I wouldn't have it any other way...
