TRUTH OR FICTION

This was written for colleague Sanaa Rizvi's
PROMPT NIGHTS:

The truth is...
my face is scarred and pimpled
but I like to imagine
I am a Pro-activ spokesperson
the truth is...
my teeth are in need of alignment
but I like to imagine
I am a model with a great smile
the truth is...
my profile is beginning to sag
but I like to imagine
I am a fitness guru still youthful.

My truth is that I am average looking
but my mind, the cheerleader it is
likes to fatten up my ego
likes to make me feel incredible
likes to cast me in the sun's glow

My truth is overshadowed by my fiction
And my fiction gives me optimism.
Optimism makes me survive each day
I wouldn't have it any other way...

  2. An alter ego, a cheer leader. Better than a dumpster. For one of you is allowed to soar

    Nice story

    Much love...

  3. I love this poem's truth and how it feeds from the speaker's fiction. In my mind, both the speaker's fiction and truth are part of his overall trueness. For there is need for that optimism that makes us as wonderful as we imagine ourselves to be. As truth and fiction dance with each other, we just are. Happy. Handsome. With pimples. And beautiful straight teeth.

  6. The world would be boring if we were perfect - who is without the aid of computer enhancement - and a cheerleader of the mind sounds indispensable to me!

  8. Yes, keep that sunny outlook, James........my outer and inner realities are quite different, as well, LOL, at my time of life. But as long as our smiles are real, we're doing fine!!!!

  18. I liked the two sides of you that you see so clearly - the ideal gives you optimism but I hope the actual gives you the comfort of knowing who you are ;)
